SENIOR CONFERENCE AT THE SHERATON HOTEL!
What I didn't get on picture was the Mission President and his wife. We were well fed and EVEN SWAM in a magnificent swimming pool. I ran a 5k every morning on the elliptical there in the gym. As senior couple we get to do a lot of things that the YOUNG Elders and Sister cannot! I love being a Senior missionary.
We followed each other through the winding streets of Tirana going to places like mount Daljti and
The Bunkers of Tirana. Nearby is a cable car ride you can take for a 20 minute trip up to the top of Mt. Dajti. It gives you a beautiful view of Tirana below, and on a clear day you can see the Adriatic Sea from the top. There is a nice restaurant up there with a panoramic view. You may also go hiking around the trails up there. For about 8 dollars you get a round trip back and forth. I felt like I was missing a pair of snow skis and SNOW . It was about 58 f degrees.
BunkArt is near to Mt. Dajti. It is a huge underground bunker with over 150 rooms, built by 40 year Albanian communist dictator Enver Hoxha during the 1970’s. He built it in case of chemical atomic warfare. It was only opened to the general public last April. We went in a giant underground bunker that was developed .
Cool experience but eerie! --I was standing right next to a German WWII uniform. Stylish, but quite frankly gave me chills. Who wore that uniform and did that person really support Hitler?
We are with the Pully's , the Collins, the Abrahamsons, the Dabells, the Copelands, and the Weidmans Couldn't get a more lovely group of people!
Senior Conference is much more than exercising and seeing the local bunkers. It was two days of getting ideas, getting supplies, learning how to approach problems and teach English classes, Piano classes, Seminary, Personal Progress, Sunday School when you don't have the language down and how to do it all at once. Shopping like crazy woman looking for special items that would be helpful for our little almost branch. Thinking four months in advance because we might not get back to the capital city for a while. Every minute was used for idea making advising and fun. Albanian missions are the best!
